Coeur d'Alene Lake

Coeur d'Alene is situated on the north side of Coeur d'Alene Lake. The lake's setting and serene atmosphere has made many consider it to be among the world's most beautiful lakes.

During the 1800s, settlers moved into the area, bringing many visitors and mining activity. By the late 1800s, many steamboats could be seen moving across the lake, carrying people, lumber, gold, and silver.

Today, Coeur d'Alene Lake has grown as a popular visitor location, it's most prominent feature being the Coeur d'Alene Resort. The resort is one of the best in the region and has the world’s longest floating boardwalk.

The Coeur d'Alene National Forest

The Coeur d'Alene National Forest teams with wildlife, fish and game, and forestry. It is around this area where mining at the Coeur d'Alene Lake began.

Murray, Idaho, on the Southwest edge of the National Forest, was one of the first mining towns to emerge from settlers moving into the area. Another Prominent town is Wallace, Idaho. It is one of the most popular mining towns to visit, where visitors can find jewelry made from gems mined in the mountains, and it is famous for being the location for the movie Dante's Peak which released in theatres back in 1997.
